Italian Comics || Topolino

Topolino is a weekly comic book that originated in 1949.

It contains comic stories featuring all the most beloved Disney characters (Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy…) as well as many secondary characters.

Although most of the characters were imported from the USA, some were invented by Italian cartoonists. The most famous character of Italian origin is Paperinik, the superhero alter ego of Donald Duck.

There is also a comic book dedicated to this character, called PK.

Italian Comics || Lupo Alberto

Lupo Alberto is a fictional character who is the protagonist of a comic book series of the same name conceived by cartoonist Silver in 1973.

Alberto is a wolf in love with the hen Marta, who matches him, but their love is thwarted by the dog Mosè, placed to guard the chicken coop on the McKenzie farm where his girlfriend also lives.

W.i.t.c.h. is a worldwide famous Italian fantasy Disney comic series created by Elisabetta Gnone, Alessandro Barbucci, and Barbara Canepa.

This captivating comic follows the story of 5 teenage girls who find themselves bestowed with the task of safeguarding the timeless elements of energy, water, fire, earth, and air.

Entrusted as the defenders of the legendary Kandrakar, the very heart of existence, they acquire magical powers and have to fight enemies while surviving high school.

Inspired by the manga genre, the comic’s art style is just as beautiful as its story. The title is formed by the initials of the five protagonists: Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin.

Pimpa, a little red-dotted dog who moves and talks like a child, was created in 1975 by the prestigious Italian artist and writer Altan, who is also famous for his satirical cartoons.

With her funny and poetic stories, the little dog with a white coat and red polka dots, who has many friends (Armando, Coniglietto, Colombino, Rosita…) has over the years become one of the most beloved characters for children in Italy and beyond.

Tex is a western comic book series first published in 1948. The main character is Tex Willer, a legendary hero that fights evil in all its forms.

Along with Topolino and Diabolik, it is considered the most famous and long-running Italian comic book series ever.

Italian Comics || Diabolik

Diabolik is one of the most famous classic Italian comics. The first volume came out in 1962, and the authors are two sisters: Angela and Luciana Giussani.

This comic follows the adventures of an anti-hero: Diabolik is a thief and murderer who almost always succeeds in carrying out his criminal plans.

With his girlfriend and trusted accomplice Eva Kant, he unscrupulously robs wealthy families, banks, or other characters who have in turn often enriched themselves illicitly. This comic book led to the birth of the Italian black comic book genre.
