The first bloom of cherry blossoms varies from location to location and may be as early as mid-March, all the way up till mid-April. Without further ado, let’s check out some places you can visit to enjoy the Cherry Blossom Festival!

Some famous destinations in Seoul include:

🌸 Yeouido Spring Flower Festival, a yearly event held at Yeouido Hangang Park

You can expect the event to run till mid-April when spring flowers like the azaleas, and forsythia are in full bloom.

This is possibly the most crowded place to see cherry blossoms in Seoul.

That because both locals and tourists gather to celebrate the bloom of more than 1,800 spectacular Korean cherry blossom trees.

🌸 Seokchon Lake Cherry Blossom Festival, located at Jamsil Station

The Seokchon Lake Cherry Blossom Festival is held in early April every year. Find alluring cherry blossom trees in full bloom along the lakeside, with the Lotte World Castle as the backdrop. An absolute dreamy and magical way to spend your Spring day!

🌸 Namsan Park, home to N Seoul Tower

While N Seoul Tower is well-known for its panoramic city views, during the cherry blossom season, a hike at the Namsan Park offers amazing views of the flowers blooming while immersing yourself in nature. Alternatively, you can take the cable car to enjoy a top-down view!

1. Picnic at Han River

One outdoor activity to immerse yourself in Spring weather is to spend your day at Han River.

Go on a picnic, order fried chicken, and get some beer while enjoying the breezy, laid-back afternoon.

Don’t forget to finish it off with the legendary Hangang Ramyeon which is Korean instant noodles!

2. Explore Korea’s National Parks

Visit Korea’s top no. 1 hiking spot, the Bukhansan National Park! With walking trails and well-guided maps available, you will be able to enjoy nature and gasp at the breathtaking scenery as you reach the peak.

Do you know Korea is home to over 7000 named mountains? Although not all are open to the public to name a few incredibly gorgeous mountains that you can hike, we have the Seoraksan National Park and Hallasan National Park which is the highest point in the country.

3. Wear Hanbok at Gyeongbokgung

As the weather becomes warmer and more comfortable, you can head down to the historical palaces in Seoul to experience wearing the Hanbok which is the Korean traditional costume, and learn more about Korean culture!

Hanbok rental stores are available near most of the palaces but the more popular one is located just outside Gyeongbokgung! A wide array of Hanbok designs and colours for you to choose from at only a rental fee of KRW 10,000-30,000 for 2 hours. Of course, the price differs for each design and whether you need extra hairstyling or accessories.

If you donned Hanbok, you do not need to pay for entrance when you visit the palaces ~

4. Lotte World Adventure

Visiting the amusement parks in Seoul is a must-do activity, especially during Spring when the weather is perfect for any outdoor adventure! If you’re a fan of thrilling rides, put this on your travel list!

5. Strawberry Farm Visit

One of the most Iconic activities to do in Spring is picking Strawberries at a farm! Spring is the harvest period for fresh, juicy, and sweet strawberries in Korea.

Located on Nami Island, there is a strawberry farm available for this experience but one thing to note is you have to book a slot in advance, so do look out for the registration period.

Spring in Korea || Useful phrases related to Spring

꽃샘추위 [kkoch-saem-chu-wi]

When this phrase is directly translated, it means flower + jealous + cold.

What does it exactly mean?

Well, there is a saying that when Spring comes, and flowers start blooming, Winter gets envious and refuses to leave. Hence, the Winter wind comes back for a final cold snap trying to show its existence. Ultimately, Winter still ends and springtime is here! It is used to describe the “last cold before Spring“.

  봄 타다 [bom ta-da]

This phrase technically means “feel the Spring” and it is used during a season change from Winter to Spring.

When we finally feel that the weather is getting warmer, and more comfortable.

Romantically, it is an expression used by Koreans!

입춘대길 [ib-chun-dae-gil]

Derived from the Hanja characters, 立春大吉, it refers to a good luck phrase to use in Spring.

May the coming of Spring be blessed with great happiness!

The Hangeul is written in calligraphy and then pasted on a wall or door to bring good luck. This is a similar practice to the Chinese culture.
