HOW TO USE ADVERBS IN VIETNAMESE
In English, adverbs are formed by adding “-ly” at the end of adjectives (i.e., quick -> quickly).
But it is different in Vietnamese. Let’s figure out how to use Vietnamese adverbs for daily conversations.
VERB + ADVERBS
You can add an adverb behind the verb to indicate a state or a level of an action.
PATTERN
Verb + Adverb
Note: An adverb of frequency such as “usually”, “sometimes”, “never”, etc is placed in front of the verb.
For example:
Tôi hát hay | I sing well |
Anh ấy nấu ăn vào buổi sáng | He cooks in morning |
ADJECTIVE + ADVERB
You can add an adverb behind or in front the adjective to indicate a level of characteristics.
PATTERN
Adjective + Adverb
For example:
Đẹp hú hồn! | Amazingly beautiful! |
Nhanh vừa vừa! | So-so speedy! |
Ngon một chút! | A little bit delicious! |
Lạnh tê tái! | Frozenly cold! |

For example:
Rất đẹp! | Very beautiful |
Quá giỏi! | Very good! |
Thật tuyệt vời! | Very wonderful! |
Cực xuất sắc! | Excellent! |
NOTE || Many adjectives and adverbs in Vietnamese are one same word. For example:
